Deira Sewage Treatment Plant (DISTP) aims at collecting and treating sewage water to irrigation water quality and to feed the irrigation network of Deira Islands that is developed by Nakheel.
Deira Islands consist of a man-made cluster of islands spanning 15.3 square kilometers, a world-class hub for tourism, retail and entertainment, adding 40 km to the city’s coastline in the process.
BUTEC in partnership with Veolia Water Systems – a worldwide leading water filtration technology and process provider – had successfully completed the construction of the Deira Island Sewage Treatment Plant (DISTP), a high-capacity but compact state of the art plant based on six membrane bioreactors (MBRs) – a new technology for water filtration. The Plant is capable of treating 36,000m3 of sewage per day and of accommodating a further future expansion up to 60,000m3 per day.
The scope of work included the complete design and construction of civil, electrical, mechanical, piping and instrumentation works. BUTEC’s scope also included obtaining governmental authorities’ approvals starting from the early design phases up to completion.
